How do you set up your play area boundaries to use the Vive XR Elite safely?

Setting up the play area on the Vive XR Elite allows you to define a safe space where you can move around without risk while using the device. This step is essential for avoiding collisions with objects or people and ensuring a comfortable virtual reality experience.

1. Prepare your play area

Before setting up the play area, choose a suitable space. We recommend clearing a sufficiently large area, free of nearby furniture or obstacles on the floor.

Also ensure the environment is well-lit to facilitate the headset’s spatial tracking.

2. Access the play area settings

From the headset, open the settings to begin configuring the play area.

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Go to the Boundary section, then select Safety Boundary.
  3. Select Configure Zone.

3. Choose the zone type

The Vive XR Elite generally offers two modes depending on your available space.

  • Stationary mode for use while seated or without moving.
  • Room-scale mode for moving freely.

The choice depends on your environment and intended use.

4. Define the boundaries of your zone

  1. Set the floor level to align the real and virtual spaces.
  2. Draw the boundaries of your zone by following the on-screen instructions.
  3. Adjust the outlines so they match your actual space.
  4. Confirm the zone once the outline is complete.

Take the time to define a precise area to avoid any errors during use.

5. Check and adjust the safety zone

Once the area is configured, the headset typically displays a visual cue when you approach the boundaries. Move slightly to verify that the alerts appear correctly. If necessary, you can restart the setup to adjust the area.

Configuring the play area on the Vive XR Elite is an essential step for using the headset safely. By correctly defining the boundaries of your space and choosing the mode suited to your environment, you reduce the risk of accidents and improve your comfort while using the headset.
