Is the Meta Quest 3S compatible with Wi-Fi 7?

Wi-Fi compatibility is key to fully enjoying streaming, cloud gaming, and collaborative virtual reality. Wi-Fi 7 (IEEE 802.11be) is the latest generation, but not all devices support it yet.

1. Meta Quest 3S is not compatible with Wi-Fi 7

As of now, the Meta Quest 3S does not support Wi-Fi 7. According to Meta’s technical specs, the headset includes a network chip compatible with:

  • Wi-Fi 6E (IEEE 802.11ax),
  • Operating on 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz bands.

Wi-Fi 6E is the most advanced standard currently supported by the Meta Quest 3S, already offering high speeds, low latency, and better interference handling.

2. What Wi-Fi 7 offers (and why it’s not essential yet)

Wi-Fi 7 introduces improvements like:

  • Theoretical speeds up to 46 Gbps,
  • Multi-Link Operation (MLO) for increased stability,
  • Reduced latency, ideal for high-end AR/VR experiences.

However, very few home routers support Wi-Fi 7 today, and most current XR headsets, including the Quest 3S, rely on Wi-Fi 6E.

3. Enjoy optimal performance with Wi-Fi 6E

Wi-Fi 6E remains fully suitable for Meta Quest 3S use cases:

  • It enables high-resolution PC VR streaming via Air Link or Virtual Desktop,
  • Provides a more stable connection than Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac),
  • Greatly reduces latency and network dropouts.

To get the best experience, use a Wi-Fi 6E router and keep the headset close, in a low-interference environment.

The Meta Quest 3S is not compatible with Wi-Fi 7, but it supports Wi-Fi 6E, which already delivers excellent wireless VR performance. For now, Wi-Fi 7 is not essential, and compatible routers remain scarce.
