What is Passthrough mode and how to enable it on the Meta Quest 3S?

With Passthrough mode, the Meta Quest 3S allows you to view your physical space without having to remove the headset. There are several ways to quickly enable or disable this view, depending on your preferences.

1. Understand Passthrough mode

Passthrough mode on the Meta Quest 3S lets you see your real environment in real time without removing the headset. Using front-facing cameras, it provides a color view of your space, helping you navigate safely while staying immersed in VR.

2. Enable Passthrough via the quick menu

1. Press the Meta button on the right controller to open the universal menu.
2. Select the “Quick Settings” icon (the clock in the lower-left corner).
3. Tap the “Passthrough” option to enable your real-world view.

3. Use the dedicated action button

The Meta Quest 3S features a dedicated action button located on the side of the headset, just behind the volume controls. A single press instantly toggles Passthrough mode, providing a seamless switch between virtual and real worlds.

4. Enable Passthrough with a double tap

1. Press the Meta button to open the universal menu.
2. Go to “All Apps” by selecting the square icon on the right of the dock.
3. Open the “Settings” app.
4. Go to the “Physical Space” section.
5. Select “Passthrough” from the left menu.
6. Enable “Double Tap for Passthrough”.

Once activated, this feature allows you to double tap the side of your headset to quickly switch between real-world and virtual views.
