Can you set a play area limit on the Pico G3(+)?
The Pico G3 is a 3DoF headset, meaning it only tracks head rotation (left/right, up/down, tilt) and not physical movement in space. Therefore, setting a play area limit as with 6DoF headsets is not necessary.
1. Why the Pico G3 doesn’t require a play area
3DoF tracking means that:
- The headset only tracks the orientation of your head.
- It does not detect your physical movement (forward/backward, sideways, up/down).
- No external cameras or sensors are used to map your surroundings.
As a result, the Pico G3 does not include a Guardian system, physical boundary detection, or safe zone setup.
2. Safety recommendations
Even without positional tracking, it is important to:
- Use the headset while seated or standing still, without moving around.
- Choose a clear area free of immediate obstacles (walls, furniture, fragile objects).
- Ensure the power cable (if charging during use) does not obstruct your movement.
3. What if your usage space changes?
No reconfiguration is needed when changing environments:
- Just ensure there’s enough space to rotate your head safely without collisions.
- The Pico G3 automatically adapts without any need to adjust a virtual zone.
As a 3DoF headset, the Pico G3 does not require a play area configuration. Simply ensure a safe space to freely move your head and enjoy a secure VR experience.
