Can I use controllers other than the ones included with the Meta Quest 3S?

The Meta Quest 3S comes with proprietary controllers specifically designed to work optimally with the headset. However, some users wonder if it’s possible to use other types of controllers, including Bluetooth gamepads or third-party accessories.

1. Use the official Meta Quest controllers

By default, the Meta Quest 3S works with its Meta Quest Touch Plus controllers. These connect via Bluetooth and are integrated into the headset’s tracking system.

They are the only ones fully compatible with all tracking, haptic feedback, and VR interaction features supported by Meta.

2. Connect a standard Bluetooth gamepad (limited use)

The Meta Quest 3S supports some Bluetooth gamepads for use with 2D apps or services like Xbox Cloud Gaming and Netflix in VR:

• Compatible controllers: Xbox, PlayStation DualShock 4, standard Android Bluetooth gamepads.
• Connection: go to Settings > Devices > Bluetooth > Add Device.
• Limitations: these gamepads do not allow 6DoF interaction in VR environments — they’re only for navigation or flat game use.

3. Use hand tracking

The Meta Quest 3S supports hand tracking without controllers for certain compatible applications:

• Activate it in Settings > Hands and Controllers.
• Allows you to navigate menus, select items, or use specific apps.
