How to enable USB debugging on Meta Quest 3S?

USB debugging is essential for installing APK files from a computer, using tools like SideQuest, or accessing advanced developer features. Activating it requires only a few simple steps after physically connecting the headset.

1. Enable developer mode

USB debugging can only be activated if developer mode is enabled:

  1. Open the Meta Quest app on your smartphone.
  2. Go to Menu > Devices and select your Meta Quest 3S.
  3. Navigate to Advanced Settings > Developer Mode.
  4. Enable Developer Mode”.
  5. Restart the headset to apply changes.

If the option doesn’t appear, register a free developer account at developer.oculus.com.

2. Connect the headset to a computer

  • Use a high-quality USB-C cable.
  • Connect one end to the Meta Quest 3S and the other to your PC or Mac.
  • The headset must be on and awake.

3. Authorize USB debugging on the headset

Once connected:

  1. A popup window will automatically appear inside the headset.
  2. It asks: Allow USB debugging?
  3. Check “Always allow from this computer” if you plan to reconnect often.
  4. Tap Allow” to confirm.

Without this authorization, your computer won’t be able to install apps or access headset data.

4. Confirm connection is recognized

If using SideQuest or Android Debug Bridge (ADB):

  • You should see a green icon (in SideQuest) or a device detected message (via ADB).
  • If not, make sure your cable supports data transfer (not just charging).

To enable USB debugging on the Meta Quest 3S, you must first activate developer mode, connect the headset via USB-C, and authorize the connection within the headset. This step is critical for sideloading or advanced access.
