How do I reset the Vive XR Elite controllers?

Resetting the Vive XR Elite controllers can resolve certain connection or operational issues, such as incorrect tracking, glitches, or loss of synchronization with the headset. This process involves restarting the controllers and, if necessary, re-pairing them with the headset.

1. Restart the controllers

Before performing a full reset, start by restarting the controllers.

  1. Turn off the controller by holding down the main button on the controller.
  2. Wait a few seconds, then turn the controller back on.

In many cases, this simple restart is enough to fix the problem.

2. Remove the controllers from the headset

If the problem persists, you can remove the controllers registered with the headset.

  1. Open the headset’s Settings.
  2. Go to Input, then Controllers.
  3. Select the affected controller.
  4. Choose Remove or Forget.

This step allows you to start over with a new pairing.

3. Re-pair the controllers

After removing them, start the pairing process again.

  1. Still in Settings > Inputs > Controllers, select Pair New.
  2. Turn on the controller.
  3. Enter pairing mode if necessary.
  4. Select the detected controller.

The controller is now reconnected to the headset.

4. Verify operation

Once the reset is complete, verify that everything is working properly.

  • Test the buttons and movements in the menu.
  • Verify that the controller is tracking correctly in space.
  • Ensure that the connection is stable.

If the problem persists, repeat the process or check the battery status.

Resetting the Vive XR Elite controllers typically involves restarting them, then unpairing and re-pairing them if necessary. These steps resolve most connection issues and restore normal headset operation.
