How to change the video recording framerate on the Meta Quest 3S?

The Meta Quest 3S lets you record VR sessions. By default, recordings are done at 30 frames per second (fps), but you can increase it to 60 fps for smoother footage. This option is only available via advanced settings.

1. Enable developer mode

To access advanced video settings, you first need to activate developer mode:

  1. Open the Meta Quest app on your smartphone.
  2. Go to Menu > Devices > Headset settings.
  3. Turn on Developer Mode”.
  4. If needed, link your headset to a free Oculus developer account at developer.oculus.com.

Once enabled, restart the headset for the mode to take effect.

2. Use the SideQuest tool (PC)

Changing the framerate requires a third-party tool like SideQuest, installed on your computer:

  1. Download SideQuest from https://sidequestvr.com.
  2. Connect the Meta Quest 3S to your PC via USB-C.
  3. Allow the connection from inside the headset.

In SideQuest:

  1. Go to the Device Settings & Tools” tab.
  2. Find the Video Capture Settings”.
  3. Adjust the following settings:
    • Bitrate: increase it to 20–40 Mbps for higher quality.
    • Framerate: set it to 60 fps instead of 30.
    • Resolution: optionally adjust it (e.g., 1920×1080 or higher).
  4. Click Save Settings” to apply changes.

3. Check performance after changes

Recording at 60 fps is smoother but more resource-intensive. Make sure that:

  • The headset’s performance remains stable.
  • You have enough available storage space.
  • The battery is well charged, as high-quality recording drains it faster.

4. Use an alternative app if needed

Apps like OVR Advanced Settings (PC/SteamVR) or streaming tools can also record in 60 fps, but they require a more technical setup and often a PC connection.

To change the video recording framerate on the Meta Quest 3S, activate developer mode, connect the headset to a PC, and use a tool like SideQuest. This method enables 60 fps recording for smoother videos, with higher resource usage as a trade-off
