Can hand tracking be enabled on the Pico G3?

Hand tracking allows users to interact in VR using their hands instead of controllers. However, this feature depends on the headset model and its tracking system.

1. The Pico G3 does not support hand tracking

The Pico G3 is a 3DoF headset and does not support hand tracking. It lacks the cameras and sensors required to detect and track hand movements without controllers.

The Pico G3’s tracking is limited to:

  • Head rotation tracking (3DoF).
  • Interaction using Bluetooth controllers (also 3DoF).

2. Alternatives for interaction

To interact in applications, Pico G3 users can use:

  • The included controller.
  • Gaze-based interface combined with a button in specific apps.
  • Compatible external accessories developed by partners, usually requiring custom development and not replacing native hand tracking.

3. Need hand tracking? Choose another model

If your project requires hand tracking, consider a headset like the Pico 4 Ultra Enterprise or other 6DoF models that officially support it.

The Pico G3 does not feature hand tracking. All interaction is done through the supplied controllers. For hand tracking, a 6DoF headset with tracking cameras is required.
