Can I use controllers other than the one provided with the Pico G3?

The Pico G3 comes with a single Bluetooth controller specifically designed to work with the headset in a 3DoF (three degrees of freedom) environment. For professional users or developers, compatibility with other devices may be questioned.

1. Use the included controller for full compatibility

The Pico G3 is optimized to work only with its original controller. It uses a proprietary communication protocol tailored to the headset system, ensuring:

  • Seamless integration with system menus, VR interactions, and preinstalled apps.
  • Enhanced stability and reliability across all standard use cases.

No second controller is required or included in the original configuration.

2. Limited compatibility with other Bluetooth controllers

Officially, the Pico G3 does not support other Bluetooth controllers such as gamepads or generic third-party devices. In practice:

  • Non-certified devices may not be detected by the headset.
  • Even when connected, their functionality may be very limited, unpredictable, or completely unintegrated in VR environments.

Some developers attempt compatibility tests, but these usually require advanced access rights and are not supported by Pico.

The Pico G3 is designed to work exclusively with its official controller. Third-party controllers are not natively supported and may cause compatibility issues. For an optimal, stable, and professional experience, using the original controller is highly recommended.
