How to factory reset your Meta Quest 3S?

A factory reset erases all data on your Meta Quest 3S: apps, accounts, settings, local files, and usage history. It’s useful in case of persistent bugs, ownership transfer, or if you want a clean system.

1. Understand the effects of the reset

Before proceeding, note that:

  • All local data will be deleted (apps, games, screenshots, settings).
  • Your purchases linked to your Meta account remain available after reconnecting.
  • Cloud backups are restored if enabled in sync settings.

Make sure to manually back up your important files to a PC via USB-C before resetting.

2. Method 1: Using the recovery menu (headset off)

If your headset won’t boot properly:

  1. Turn the headset off completely.
  2. Press and hold the power and volume down buttons for 3–5 seconds.
  3. The recovery menu appears.
  4. Use the volume buttons to navigate to “Factory Reset” and confirm with the power button.
  5. Confirm data deletion.

The headset will reboot with default settings.

3. Method 2: Using the Meta Quest mobile app

From your smartphone:

  1. Open the Meta Horizon app.
  2. Go to Menu > Devices.
  3. Select your Meta Quest 3S.
  4. Tap Headset Settings > Factory Reset and then press “Reset”.
  5. Confirm the operation.

This works only if the headset is on, connected, and recognized by the app.

To factory reset your Meta Quest 3S, use the headset menu, the recovery menu, or the Meta Quest mobile app. This process erases all local content but keeps purchases linked to your account. It’s useful for serious issues or preparing the headset for new use.
