What do the different LED lights on the Meta Quest 3S mean?

The Meta Quest 3S uses LED indicators to show the headset’s and controllers’ current status. These light codes help you quickly diagnose the device’s state even when it’s not visible on screen.

1. Headset LED indicator: color codes

The Meta Quest 3S headset has a main LED near the USB-C charging port. Here’s what the colors mean:

  • Solid white: the headset is on and working normally.
  • Blinking white: the headset is starting up or updating.
  • Solid orange: the headset is charging but the battery is still low.
  • Solid green: the headset is fully charged.
  • Solid red: very low battery, usually under 10%.
  • Blinking red: critical battery or charging issue. Check the cable or power source.
  • Blinking blue (rare): the headset is in recovery mode or undergoing a system update.

2. Controller LED indicators

Each Meta Quest 3S controller has a small LED as well:

  • Solid white: the controller is connected and ready to use.
  • Blinking white: pairing in progress.
  • Blinking red: low battery, replace it soon.
  • No light: controller is off, disconnected, or without a battery.

3. LEDs and headset sleep mode

When the headset is in sleep mode:

  • No lights are visible unless you move it or press a button.
  • If lightly touched or lifted, the white LED may blink briefly to show it’s waking up.

4. What to do with a persistent red LED?

If the red LED remains on after several charging attempts:

  • Try a different cable or power adapter.
  • Check that the USB-C ports are clean and unobstructed.
  • Force a restart by holding the power button for 10 seconds.
  • If the issue continues, connect the headset to a PC via Meta Quest Link to see if it is recognized.

The Meta Quest 3S LED indicators provide quick status feedback for battery, connectivity, and device operation. By learning to interpret them, you can anticipate issues and ensure smooth usage of your headset.
