How to fix performance issues on Meta Quest 3S?

The Meta Quest 3S may sometimes experience slowdowns, stuttering, low framerate, or long load times. These issues may be caused by software overloads, full storage, or misconfigurations. Here’s how to identify and fix them efficiently.

1. Restart the headset regularly

A simple restart can often resolve temporary slowness:

  1. Hold down the power button.
  2. Select Restart” from the menu.

This clears the temporary memory (cache) and restarts system processes.

2. Close background applications

Too many open apps can overload the headset’s resources:

  1. Go to Meta > Library > Recent Apps.
  2. Close unused apps by selecting them and choosing Quit”.
  3. Restart the headset if needed to fully clear memory.

3. Free up storage space

Full storage can drastically slow down the system:

  1. Go to Settings > System > Storage.
  2. Delete unused games, apps, video captures, or downloaded files.
  3. Transfer media to a PC via USB-C to free up space.

Keep at least 10% of storage free for smooth operation.

4. Check for system and app updates

Outdated software may cause performance drops:

  1. Go to Settings > System > Updates.
  2. Open the Meta Horizon Store > Installed Apps to update apps manually.

Updates often fix performance bugs or compatibility issues.

5. Lower graphics settings in demanding apps

For demanding VR games or when using streaming apps:

  • Lower the render resolution or target framerate.
  • Close other programs if streaming from PC.

Poor network speed can also cause stuttering in wireless mode.

6. Avoid overheating

High temperatures can cause the system to throttle:

  • Avoid long sessions in hot rooms or direct sunlight.
  • Take off the headset if it feels hot to the touch.
  • Let it cool down in the shade.

7. Factory reset as a last resort

If issues persist, perform a factory reset via Settings > System > Reset.

Please note: this will erase all data on the headset. Back up important files first.

To fix performance issues on the Meta Quest 3S, start by restarting the headset, closing unused apps, and freeing up space. Keep your system and apps updated, avoid overheating, and adjust graphics settings if needed. Use a factory reset only as a last resort.
