Which MDM solutions should you choose to manage your AR/VR headsets?

At Matts Digital, we support many companies in the large-scale deployment of virtual reality and augmented reality solutions. These devices must be configured, updated, and supplied with content from a central tool: an MDM. Mobile Device Management (MDM) platforms allow you to control a fleet of headsets remotely. Manufacturers offer their own solutions, but there are also platforms that support devices from multiple brands.

1. Manufacturer MDM solutions

Headset manufacturers have developed their own management software. These solutions are perfect if you only use one brand of headset.

1.1. Pico Business Device Manager

Pico Business Device Manager is the management platform for Pico VR headsets for professional use. It enables centralized device administration, user management, and remote content deployment. Designed for businesses, training, and events, the solution aims to manage fleets of Pico headsets simply and efficiently, with usage control and quick device configuration. It also integrates LBE (Location-Based Entertainment) card management: creation and allocation of cards/spaces, configuration of zones, and deployment of associated settings on the relevant headsets.

Pico also offers a free “mini-MDM” fleet management solution designed to control and supervise nearby headsets: Pico Business Suite (PBS). It only works on the local area network (LAN): no Internet connection is required to use it in this context. This solution allows you to deploy a complete solution (content, settings, applications, adjustments, etc.) to multiple headsets in a matter of seconds, but above all to control and monitor devices in real time: mirroring, user-side content management, kiosk mode, etc. Unlike a traditional MDM, Pico Business Suite is not designed for remote administration via the Internet. Rather, it is a turnkey solution particularly suited to uses such as training and education, where you want to keep devices under control in the same room or on the same site.

1.2. Meta Horizon Managed Services (HMS)

Meta Horizon Managed Services (HMS) is Meta’s solution dedicated to managing Quest headsets. This solution allows you to deploy, configure, and manage fleets of headsets from a centralized interface, with account, access, and security settings management. It facilitates both the deployment of applications and the daily use of virtual reality. The solution adapts to the needs of businesses and education with two dedicated licenses: For Work and For Education.

As of February 20, 2026, Meta Horizon Managed Services licenses will no longer be available for purchase. However, existing customers will still be able to use this service free of charge until January 4, 2030.

1.3. Vive: Vive Business+

Vive Business+ is a solution designed for intensive professional VR deployments, particularly in Location-Based Entertainment (LBE) contexts. Different licenses are available to suit each project: Standard, Pro, and Ultimate. The Standard license is available free of charge, while the Pro and Ultimate licenses are available for €280 and €480 for a three-year period. However, paid licenses offer additional features. VIVE Business+ is ideal for immersive events and group experiences, while remaining relevant for business and training uses.

2. Multi-brand MDM solutions

When your fleet includes multiple brands of headsets or you want to remain flexible, multi-brand platforms allow you to centralize fleet management on a single dashboard.

2.1. ArborXR

ArborXR is a platform designed to remotely manage AR/VR headset fleets to facilitate the deployment, configuration, and supervision of devices, regardless of their brand (Meta, Pico, Vive, Lenovo, Magic Leap, etc.). It is an effective solution for demonstrations or training. The platform offers three types of subscriptions:

2.2. Inversive

Inversive is a French platform that supports Pico, Meta, Vive, and Varjo headsets. It is designed to centralize, control, and secure experiences and devices remotely from a single interface. Inversive offers a user license for €8 per year excluding tax and a headset license for €156 per year excluding tax.

3. Conclusion

The choice between a manufacturer MDM and a multi-brand MDM depends mainly on the type of fleet and its uses. Manufacturer MDMs are suitable when the fleet is homogeneous and the objective is to deploy and manage headsets simply, securely, and in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations. They are well suited to the needs of businesses, training, and education, and can be set up quickly.

Conversely, multi-brand MDMs offer greater flexibility to organizations that use multiple types of headsets or have varied uses. They make it easy to manage heterogeneous fleets, customize the user experience, and meet needs such as events or deployments across multiple sites. These solutions are therefore better suited to complex or large-scale projects. However, these solutions are more expensive.

We help companies choose and integrate MDM solutions that are tailored to their needs. Thanks to our expertise in virtual and augmented reality, we configure your headsets, integrate your content, and provide personalized support. Feel free to contact us to discuss your projects!
